The gunman who shot two people and wounded at least five other people before committing suicide on Friday had a history of arrests for kidnapping women, according to the proceedings of the Leon County Court.
Scott Paul Beierle, 40, was arrested in 2012 on the charge of committing a crime after seizing the buttocks of two women on the campus of Florida State University, according to the Records of the Court of Leon County. He was arrested again in 2016 for assault after apparently slapping and grabbing another woman in the pool of West Tennessee Street apartment complex where he lived.
The attorney general's office filed information in both cases. However, prosecutors finally dropped the charges.
Police from the former Soviet Union were summoned to Sala Suwannee, a busy dining hall on campus, on December 7, 2012, after being informed that a man had improperly touched customers. The two women made statements to the police and said they wanted to file a complaint.
"Victim No. 1 said he was in the soda fountain when he felt someone grab his buttocks," says the police report. "She thought maybe it was her boyfriend at first, and (when) she turned around, she identified the man as Beierle.
"Victim No. 2 reported seeing Beierle seize victim # 2 and wanted to make sure he saw what he saw." The victim n. ° 2 stated that the same person caught (caught) buttocks on three different occasions in the last month. "
